How to Find an App's Version on Fire TV, Android TV, Samsung and LG

Where each device shows the version number of an installed app, what is documented and what is not, and how to check for an update.

Quick answer

Start inside the app: look for Settings, About or App information. For the TV's own app list, one app maker's help page gives paths for Android TV, Samsung and LG (below). We found no Amazon page that says where a Fire TV shows an app's version, and Google's Android TV help does not cover it either, so those parts are marked as not documented.

Applies to

Devices
Amazon Fire TV (not documented); Android TV and Google TV; Samsung Tizen TVs; LG webOS TVs
Apps
Any app, but the screens differ from app to app
How this was verified
Partly checked against official documentation (see Sources) on October 29, 2026. Steps marked “Not documented by the maker” are not confirmed. Not tested on a real device by us. Menu names can differ by model and software version.

Why the version matters#

Support will often ask for it. It also shows whether you are on an old version when a newer one fixes the problem you have. Neither fact comes from a maker's help page. They are practical reasons.

Step 1: Look inside the app#

Open the app and look for Settings, About, App information or Info. Many apps show the version number there. If you can see it, you are done, and this works on every device.

What is documented, device by device#

Device Where to look Who documents it Status
Android TV Settings > Apps > All apps > the app > Details, or inside the app: Menu > App information One app maker's help page (Teleboy), for its own app Documented for one app. Not confirmed for every app
Google TV Settings > Apps > See all apps > the app Google's pages cover installing, updating and deleting apps and say nothing about a version number Not documented for the version
Samsung Inside the app: Settings (gear icon) > App information Teleboy's help page, for its own app Documented for one app. Not confirmed for every app
LG LG Content Store > My apps > the app > Details, or inside the app: Settings > App information Teleboy's help page, for its own app Documented for one app. Not confirmed for every app
Fire TV We found no page that says Amazon's pages we read do not mention an app's version number Not documented

How to check for an update#

  • Android TV and Google TV: open the Google Play Store, choose My Apps (on Google TV, your profile picture then Manage apps & games), and look under Updates available. Google's Android TV page also shows Auto-update apps under My Apps > Open settings.
  • Samsung: Samsung's Australian support page says to go to Apps > App Settings, where you can turn on Auto update, and to choose Reinstall for an app that is not working. Menu paths vary by model year.
  • Fire TV: Amazon's app-troubleshooting page says that uninstalling and reinstalling an app ensures you have the latest version. For the Fire TV system itself (not an app), go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for System Update.

If you cannot find the version#

  • Try the app's own Settings again. Some apps hide the version under Support or Help.
  • Take a photo of the screen and send it to support. They can often tell the version from the screen.
  • Keep the TV's own software up to date as well. Both Amazon and Samsung list a system update as a step when apps misbehave.
