Fire TV Stick 4K Select: Does It Work With Tellyro?
Our Tellyro app does not currently support the Fire TV Stick 4K Select. Here is why, which Fire TV models run the same system, and how to check yours.
Quick answer
No. Our Tellyro app does not currently support the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, because that stick runs Amazon's Vega OS and not the Android-based Fire OS. We have no confirmed release date for a compatible version, so we cannot say whether or when that will change.

The short answer#
Our Tellyro app does not currently support the Fire TV Stick 4K Select. The stick runs Amazon's newer Vega OS, and our app is not made for it. We have no confirmed release date for a version that is, so we can't say whether or when that will change.
That is only about our app. Other apps are a different story. Amazon says it has added more than 2,000 apps for Vega OS since the 4K Select launched. Whether a particular app is on that list depends on the app's own team and on Amazon.
What Vega OS is#
Most Fire TV devices run Fire OS, which is Amazon's version of Android. Amazon describes Fire OS 7 as based on Android 9 and Fire OS 8 as based on Android 11 and 10. Android apps are built to run on it.
Vega OS is Amazon's newer system. Amazon says it built Vega on Linux components, and that developers make Vega apps with React Native or web technology. The Fire TV Stick 4K Select, announced on 30 September 2025, was the first Fire TV stick to run it.
Why does that matter? Think of an app as a plug made for one kind of socket. An app built for Android-based Fire OS does not fit Vega OS until someone builds a Vega version of it.
Why an Android app can't just be installed#
Amazon's developer pages describe three ways an app reaches a Vega OS stick:
- A Vega app. The developer builds it with Amazon's Vega tools and publishes it through the Amazon Appstore.
- A cloud-hosted Fire OS app. Amazon can stream a Fire OS app from its own cloud to a Vega OS stick. Those apps are labelled "Amazon cloud-hosted app", and Amazon says this is available only for apps that Amazon selects.
- Developer Mode. This is for people with an Amazon developer account who are building and testing apps. It is switched off by default, and the documentation describes installing Vega packages that way.
None of these lets you install an Android app yourself. We found nothing in Amazon's documentation that describes doing that.
Check the exact model before you buy#
"4K" in the name tells you nothing about the operating system. Amazon's specification page puts some Fire TV Stick 4K models on Vega OS and others on Fire OS, as the table below shows.
Before you buy: read the full product name and the year, then find that exact model in Amazon's specification page. Names can be very close. The 4K (2nd Gen) and the 4K (3rd Gen) run different systems.
On a stick you already own: go to Settings > My Fire TV > About. Amazon's help page shows this screen for device information, and its developer documentation points to it for your device name, such as "Fire TV Stick 4K Select". Match that name against the table below. If the name is not clear enough, check the model year on the box or in your order.
Fire TV models and their operating systems#
This comes from Amazon's device specification page, last updated 30 September 2026.
| Fire TV model (year) | Our Tellyro app | Operating system (Amazon) |
|---|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025) | Not supported (our support notice) | Vega OS |
| Fire TV Stick 4K, 3rd Gen (2026) | Not confirmed here. It also runs Vega OS | Vega OS |
| Fire TV Stick HD, 2nd Gen (2026) | Not confirmed here. It also runs Vega OS | Vega OS |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025) | Not confirmed here | Fire OS 8 |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max, 2nd Gen (2023) | Not confirmed here | Fire OS 8 |
| Fire TV Stick 4K, 2nd Gen (2023) | Not confirmed here | Fire OS 8 |
| Fire TV Stick HD, 1st Gen (2024) | Not confirmed here | Fire OS 7 |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max, 1st Gen (2021) | Not confirmed here | Fire OS 7 |
| Fire TV Stick, 3rd Gen (2020) | Not confirmed here | Fire OS 7 |
| Fire TV Cube, 3rd Gen (2022) | Not confirmed here | Fire OS 7 |
"Not confirmed here" means our support notice does not cover that model, so we are not saying either way. Older sticks from 2014 to 2019 run Fire OS 5 or 6, and the Fire TV smart TVs in Amazon's list run Fire OS. We make no claim about how any older device performs.
If you already own a Fire TV Stick 4K Select#
The stick works with the apps that have been made for it. Here is a sensible order:
- Open the Amazon Appstore on the stick and search for the apps you use. If an app is not listed, it has not been made available for this stick.
- If an app is listed but will not open, this guide on apps that won't load covers the usual causes. This one shows how to find an app's version.
- Before you buy a replacement stick, check its full model name and year against the table above, and check that the apps you need support it. For our app, this page is our notice.
Short answers#
Can I install the Tellyro app with Downloader?#
No. Downloader only fetches a file. It can't change which operating system an app was built for, and our app is not built for Vega OS.
What about an Android APK file?#
An APK is an Android app file, and Vega OS is not Android-based. Amazon describes Fire OS apps reaching Vega OS devices only through its cloud program, and only for apps it selects. We found no Amazon page that describes an ordinary user installing an APK.
Will a VPN help?#
No. A VPN changes how your internet traffic travels. It does not change the operating system or which apps can run on it. Amazon says VPN apps exist for Vega OS, but that is a separate thing from our app.
Will there be a Tellyro app for Vega OS?#
We have no confirmed release date, so we can't say whether or when one will exist.
Do other apps work on the 4K Select?#
Some do. Amazon names Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Prime Video, Spotify and VLC among its Vega OS apps. Whether a particular app is there is up to that app's team, so this article only speaks for ours.
